Cheltenham Design Festival

In April......

Cheltenham is also the host of the Cheltenham Design Festival... this is another very exciting festival where many established designers come together in one great show....

 About.......

"The Cheltenham Design Foundation was founded by a group of professionals based in Gloucestershire with backgrounds and interests in design. Taking a three-part approach, in its first year the foundation is reaching individuals through the Academy, Master Classes and the Design Festival, which will take place over three days in April 2012.
  • The Design Academy launched on 10 September 2011 and will focus on educating and inspiring 14-16 year olds through a series of free, Saturday-morning classes in design during term time until Easter 2012.
  • The Master Classes for Business will improve the design understanding of Gloucestershire businesses and help them to raise their profile and reach new customers.
  • The Cheltenham Design Festival is a platform for new creative thinking for design, technology and business. Its goal is to inspire, educate and raise the profile of design."

...this festival is also working with the Stroud International Textile Festival where designers come together and produce combined pieces. This event is called 'PARINGS II - Conversations and Collaberations'...

About...

'The artists come from a variety of backgrounds in the craft, design and art spectrum, engaging with materials ranging from clay, glass, textiles, wood, metal, paper to new technologies such as digital media. From a seed planted at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2010, Pairings II will expand that initial thought process introducing new pairs to work together and create exciting new work. The marriage of materials, practices and creative identities will give birth to work and ideas that redefine the nature of the object and of craft. This exhibition will showcase new work from 15 artist/makers that include Claire Curneen, David Gates, Alice Kettle, Jane Webb, Rhian Solomon, Rachel Kelly, Shelly Goldsmith, Janet Haigh, Sharon Blakey and Rachel Kelly and explore how the materials highlighted can be used to create imaginative and innovative work.'
